Law Blank was spawned from the ill-informed school of low-fi, low-tech and low-talent. However, through blind determination, and a misguided sense of over-confidence, Law began crafting his sound with primitive sampling keyboards and tape to tape multiple recordings to achieve a unique and hip amateur sound (check out the Listen and Download section for samples).
Law’s first band incarnation began in this stage with Carey McCarter and the project called Industrial Strength Buddhafish. Blank and McCarter created a hybrid acousto-industrial noise that was received well on the west coast, but never really caught on.
Eventually taking the craft of songwriting seriously, Law began playing guitar, learned a few chords and after moving to Central Pennsylvania (Lewisburg) began that pop band Trace Elements. This ensemble, and their unique sound, had many year of active songwriting and performances. Most notably a recording session with NPR’s George Graham and his “Homegrown Music” segment which produced 9 tracks of original songs that has been encored on NPR.
After the breakup of Trace Elements, Law continued to write music with his trio consisting of Joey DeChristoper and Tim Attinger in the unfinished rock experience entitled Mortimer My Love. Blank also consecutively produced performance art pieces with fellow musician and co-writer George Potor in their troupe Foreign Correspondence which produced spoken-word gems and train wrecks alike.
Law finally retreated into seclusion and a quiet time of reflection which led to his singer-songwriting personae. Through personal hardships and triumphs, Law penned song after song about life, love, loss, and occasionally an irreverent anthem would arise. Law performed in many band incarnations such as; The Blank Trio, Blank Page, and currently van clank! with bassist Clay Harmony, and violinist Vanessa Harmony. Law is also collaborating with percussionist and sampler Shaun ? going back to his roots with a sample driven project called The Project.
Law is currently working on his first solo release “Gonna Wage a War.” He plans to release several songs in 2008 and have the project finished in 2009.
Law currently resides in Malvern, Pennsylvania.
